Labs to Leaders: Growth and Development at Medvantx
At Medvantx, we strive towards innovation as a team. It is said that “Leaders are only as good as their team members,” and we believe in fostering growth in our employees through various programs. One we would like to highlight is the “Executive Edge” Labs to Leadership program. This initiative is designed to provide our team members with the tools and skills they need to excel in their careers and personal development. Recently, we gathered insights and feedback from participants to share their experiences and the impact of the program on their professional journeys. There were 21 participants in this course and here are some of their key takeaways from the development:
Leadership Skills and Goal Setting
Laken Bush, one of our Associate Directors, shared how the course was instrumental in teaching leadership skills and the importance of goal setting. “The course was designed to teach leadership skills to managers, focusing on various aspects such as goal setting, documentation, and scheduling. We spent a lot of time setting goals for the teams we lead, including improving documentation and scheduling. Putting pen to paper for goal setting will make performance review time easier,” Laken explained.
Time Management and Team Building
Time management and team building were key components of the program. Laken discussed various time blocking techniques covered in the course, such as using a Pomodoro timer that buzzes after 30 minutes or blocking off specific times in Google Calendar for tasks. “The course included discussions on team building, working in cross-functional groups, and understanding the dynamics of high-performing teams versus average teams. It also addressed handling difficult conversations with team members, particularly regarding coaching for performance.” The significance of peer-to-peer relationships was discussed in how the course has helped our employees build better relationships with colleagues, understand their roles, and improve communication.
DISC Assessment and Personality Insights
Scott Babcock (Associate Director, Call Center) and Cassalena Pendleton (Associate Director, Customer Experience) shared their experiences with the DISC assessment, which helped them understand their personalities better and how it impacted their leadership styles. “The DiSC® assessment revealed I was not in alignment with my perceived personality. I learned I needed to step back, pause, and actively listen to others.” Scott shared. He also noted that the course provided a valuable opportunity for virtual participants to meet and discuss management-level topics, which is more challenging in a remote work environment. Cassalena added, “I learned from the DISC assessment that I am a relationship builder. This insight helped me understand my strengths and work on giving more honest feedback and being more outspoken, which have yielded positive results.” Cassalena mentioned that participants were assigned peer partners to hold each other accountable and ensure they were giving their best selves and taking time for themselves for course development and projects throughout the day.
Organizational Growth and Leadership Development
Ellie (Head of Human Resources), highlighted the importance of leadership training for the organization’s growth and development. “As our organization continues to grow and evolve, it’s crucial to set strong, fundamental leadership training for our teams. This kind of training helps develop the quality of leaders within the organization, ensuring longevity and continuous growth in innovation.”
As we continue to invest in our team’s growth and development, the Labs to Leaders program remains a strong commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement among our two pharmacy locations. Across 40+ pharmacists and multiple departments, we look forward to seeing the continued success and growth of our participants as they apply their newfound skills and insights in their roles at Medvantx.
