Commitment to Quality
An Interview with Amanda Chuk, Director of Quality at Medvantx
At Medvantx, quality isn’t just a goal—it’s a foundational value supported from the very top of the organization. In a recent conversation with Amanda Chuk, Director of Quality, we explored the strategies, frameworks, and collaborative spirit that have enabled Medvantx to achieve a remarkable 99% accuracy rate in its quality processes.
Leadership and Collaboration: The Backbone of Quality
Leadership commitment to quality is clear throughout Medvantx’s mission. Resources are devoted to supporting quality through our Medical Affairs team. Both compliance and quality work have separate teams working in close partnership. “Both areas share the aim of identifying opportunities for improvement,” Amanda said, highlighting the multifaceted approach the organization takes.
Within the quality team, every event that might indicate a deviation from process is investigated. Amanda described a new leveling system for nonconformances, based on patient or program impact, which provides a shared language for discussing safety and quality opportunities. Staff and leaders are involved in reviewing these events, and when a deep dive is needed, Medvantx employs a formal post-event response through its corrective action and preventative action framework.
“This year, we’ve introduced a new approach to mapping those events to really understand what happened,” Amanda shared. By applying individual and system failure modes to any inappropriate actions, the team can tailor solutions and be more confident in their effectiveness. Importantly, these solutions are co-created with operational staff, ensuring that the best ideas come from those who perform these processes every day.
Accreditation: Raising the Bar for Quality and Safety
Amanda spoke passionately about the role of NABP and ACHC accreditations in enhancing Medvantx’s ability to proactively mitigate risk and manage adverse events. “These accreditations really have at their core quality and safety,” she said. The standards set by these bodies raise the bar for Medvantx, providing a positive challenge to analyze current practices and strive for improvement.
“It’s something to celebrate that we hold NABP and ACHC accreditation,” Amanda noted, describing it as an external sign that Medvantx’s structure and processes align with high standards of quality and safety. Accreditation is not just a badge—it’s a way to paint a picture of the type of organization Medvantx is.
Patient-Centered Care: Delivering Quality Throughout the Journey
Amanda highlighted how accreditation standards translate into real benefits for patients. As an NADP-accredited digital pharmacy, Medvantx ensures patient-facing interactions are held to high standards. For ACHC, the commitment extends to providing patient-friendly information about medications and thorough documentation of patient encounters.
Our clinical pharmacists provide patient counseling and review prescription refill rates to assess adherence. They partner with providers and patients to ensure the best therapy is delivered. Patient centeredness is another aspect, and ACHC is a true example of that.
Integrating Compliance and Real-Time Quality Monitoring
Quality and compliance at Medvantx operate in lockstep, but with distinct activities. Amanda described how audits—whether client, regulatory, or internal—are opportunities to identify nonconformances and drive improvement. Any findings are considered opportunities for improvement when we incorporate external audit findings into ongoing quality improvement efforts.
The organization also takes a proactive approach with internal compliance reviews, such as quality assurance production monitoring. This joint effort between production, operational leaders, and the quality team involves quarterly reviews tailored to focus on specific areas. It is much preferred that we identify something and fix it rather than have it be a finding from an external auditor.
What Sets Medvantx Apart
Amanda reflected on her own journey, sharing that after a 20-year career as a health system pharmacist, she joined Medvantx for its unique approach. “Medvantx’s direct partnership with manufacturers automatically makes us have an accompanying role in supporting safe medication use,” she said. This close tie with partners means that high quality, compliance, and patient safety are central to Medvantx’s approach—internally and as expected by client partners. Dedication and energy drive our commitment to quality, compliance, and patient-centered care.
